Production Project – Sessions 1 & 2

SUMMARY

Role

I was the Director for team one. I organized, worked with, and instructed my crew each day.

Intention (SMART Goal)

By October 14th, as part of team 1 as director, I will have evidence of decision-making by following The Director: Crash Course Film Production #7 for session 1. I worked on instructing actors and organizing the production of the film. I decided where we would film and collaborated with the crew to create the film. I obtained an actor to increase productivity.

Skills Commentary

Link to Slideshow. My job requires actor direction, making choices regarding the details of the film, and collaborating with the other members of staff to create a more fluid film. Additionally, I am required to instruct actors in detail on what parts of their performance they need to improve, keep the same, or remove entirely. Emotion in the actors, small tweaks in dialogue to make the conversation more fluid and realistic, actor positioning, and setting are all parts of my responsibility as director.

POST-PRODUCTION – REFLECTION

21st Century Skills

Ways of Thinking (Creativity, Innovation, Critical Thinking, Problem Solving)

I worked with my group to make creative ideas and included the ones we agreed would work into the film.

Ways of Working (Communication & Collaboration)

I worked with my team, told them what I wanted, and tried to compromise when we had disagreements on how to proceed.

Tools for Working (Info & Media Literacy)

I used the resources I had gathered from past projects and used them in the project to try and replace items we did not have access to.

Ways of Living in the World (Life & Career)

I learned more about working with a smaller crew and the process of acquiring actors. I learned how long it takes to “perfect” a film and about how easily it can fall apart without proper management.

Reactions to the Final Version

Many clear flaws with cuts, sound warping, and dialogue. I believe that although there wasn’t much time, Zac could have salvaged a lot of dialogue and images that were scrapped entirely. Advisor Michelle stated that our presentation was clear and confidant, however our video could have used a lot more work.

Self-Evaluation of Final Version

I believe that we all messed around too much, improperly managed our time, and the editing was rushed and sloppy. Therefore, I must take the majority of the blame due to my improper management of the group. If I had done my job properly, I would have reigned them in to make a more professional and less sloppy project or would have fired them due to them being a liability to the project. Therefore, I would likely have resigned or would have been fired from my job if in a real-world scenario. The project was fairly simple due to lack of effort, was not unexpected or emotional due to lack of attachment, and was not concrete due to loss of dialogue.
